About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Country Manager to lead our operations in Zambia and drive sustainable growth within our agrochemical business. This role carries full responsibility for the country’s performance, including strategy development, sales growth, operational excellence, and market expansion across both smallholder and commercial farming segments.
The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with a proven track record in commercial management, capable of building high-performing teams and delivering measurable business results.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute country strategy aligned with overall business goals
- Identify growth opportunities, partnerships, and new market segments
- Lead planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes
- Represent the company in key stakeholder and group engagements
Commercial & Sales Management
- Deliver revenue, volume, and profitability targets
- Expand and strengthen distribution networks
- Drive sales execution, key accounts, and trade initiatives
- Monitor market trends and adjust strategies proactively
Marketing & Brand Development
- Strengthen brand visibility across multiple channels
- Lead farmer engagement programs, demos, and training
- Support localized campaigns and product promotions
- Track and measure marketing performance
Operational Excellence
- Oversee supply chain, inventory, and product availability
- Ensure regulatory compliance and product standards
- Improve systems, processes, and overall efficiency
Financial Management
- Manage country P&L and financial performance
- Drive cost control and profitability
- Monitor working capital and financial health
- Track KPIs and business performance
People Leadership
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team
- Foster a culture of accountability and performance
- Mentor talent and support career growth
- Promote collaboration and effective communication
Stakeholder Management
- Maintain strong relationships with government and regulators
- Build partnerships with distributors, farmers, and partners
- Represent the company in industry forums and events
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to legal, regulatory, and company standards
- Maintain ISO and policy compliance
- Identify and mitigate business risks
- Stay updated on local laws and trade regulations
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Agriculture, or a related field (minimum requirement)
- Background in Agriculture, Public Health, or Veterinary studies is an added advantage
Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience leading a commercial function in a large firm
- Proven success in B2B sales, preferably within a distributor-led model
- Strong experience managing P&L and delivering financial performance
- Exposure to agri-business or working with farmers/distributors is preferred
- Knowledge of African markets is an added advantage
- Experience leading large, diverse teams
